Rosemary Sutcliff
Rosemary Sutcliff was born in a blizzard on 14 December 1920. The place was East Clandon in Surrey As a child she had Still’s Disease, a form of juvenile arthritisSutcliff ended her formal education at fourteen Around the middle of the War, Sutcliff “got the itch” to write. She felt cramped by the small canvas of miniature painting, and turned to writing to gain a larger vista. The first story she could remember writing was Wild Sunrise, a story about a British chieftain faced with the invasion of the Romans.
