Interest Age 9-11 Reading Age 6+ Barrington Stoke specialises in producing books designed and written to be accessible to all readers including those with dyslexia: short extents, carefully chosen fonts and layout, and cream paper help, but good stories are crucial too. This one will be enjoyed by any stage-struck teen or X Factor fan. It looks like Burford School Glee Club’s hopes of winning the local schools’ competition are dashed when their teacher falls ill. Step forward Mel who’s persuaded to be temporary artistic director. The music she can cope with, overseeing her fellow Club members’ love lives is a lot trickier! Can Mel see them through the finals and ease the path of true love? Finding out is great fun!

Glee Club by Jo Cotterill

Fun, girl-friendly title about music, drama and high school romance with a very low reading age for seriously struggling readers. One of the Solo series – age-appropriate, top-notch and very effective titles for those with a reading age of 6.5

Mel and her friends love the high school Glee Club. They can't wait to take on their rivals in the tournament finals! But when the director falls ill and has to pull out, is that the end of their chances at the trophy? Or can Mel pick up the role and lead her team to glory? It could be tricky, especially if romance rears its head and gets in the way...

Particularly suitable for struggling, reluctant and dyslexic readers aged 9+
