Cowgirl by G. R. Gemin

Shortlisted for The Branford Boase Award 2015 A gently funny story of a community coming together, this is a tale of happy endings in unexpected places.

There were cows in the road - loads of them. I pulled hard on the brakes and swerved. The back wheel skidded, and I was under my bike. I felt the stinging pain in my leg and arm where they ripped on the road. I lay there, looking up at the cows glaring down at me. There's something about a cow's eyes - mad and staring, like they want to trample you to death. I slowly began get up, when one of them started to come towards me - gigantic, it was. I screamed.
