The Lovereading comment:
Combines a wonderfully imaginative and colourful story with an important message -- delivered subliminally -- on the subject of bullying. Every child will be transported into a magical underwater world through some absolutely stunning illustrations and clever word play. Even better, £1 from every sale will be donated to the charity ‘Beatbullying’.
Synopsis
Michelle in: Crabbit Comes to Stay by Julie Hegarty & Ritchie CollinsThe subject of bullying is always a difficult topic to address when trying to reach children, yet in her debut book Michelle in: Crabbit comes to Stay, new children's author Julie Hegarty succeeds in combining a fun, colourful story with an important message for young readers.
£1.00 from the sale of each book will be donated to Beatbullying.
Julie's book is aimed at children between the ages of three and seven, an age group previously neglected by anti-bullying campaigns. Set in the rockpool world of Michelle the scallop, the book transports the reader into a magical yet safe place where they can deal with the subject of bullying and the emotions connected to it. It's a beautiful story, with fantastic illustrations and acts rather like a modern day Aesop's Fable. The book is also supported by the children's charity, Beatbullying and a £1 from every sale will be donated to the charity.
About The Author
New children’s author Julie Hegarty has teamed up with Beatbullying, the UK’s biggest anti-bullying charity and the first to use solutions for young people devised by young people, to help raise awareness of bullying within Britain’s primary schools.
Hegarty has been taken on as a patron for the charity in order to help them raise awareness of the need to educate and support young children, primary school teachers and parents on the causes of bullying and how best to deal with it when it occurs.
Julie Hegarty grew up on the picturesque coast of South Wales, where her days were spent exploring the rock pools and paddling on the beach. Her childhood love for writing poetry stayed with her through her high powered career as a music business accountant, where she worked for celebrity clients including George Michael and Nancy Griffiths and soon after moving to Edinburgh the character of Michelle the scallop started to take shape.
