The Lovereading4Kids comment

TV presenter Steve Backshall tells a cracking adventure set in a remote and treacherous corner of Siberia as Saker and Sinter do everything they can to sabotage an illegal oil pipeline. Their mission is deadly dangerous. Not only do they have to contend with the dangers and risks of the freezing conditions but they also have to fight off hungry polar bears and wolves who will do anything to get something to eat. Throw in their human enemies and the full danger is exposed! A thrilling and richly atmospheric story. ~ Julia Eccleshare

Wilds of the Wolf by Steve Backshall

Gripping adventure fiction from Deadly TV presenter Steve Backshall, perfect for fans of Anthony Horowitz and Charlie Higson. This is the third adventure in the Falcon Chronicles, filled with intrigue, adventure, exotic wildlife and dramatic locations. Saker and Sinter escape by the skin of their teeth when their plan to sabotage a billionaire businessman plundering 'black gold' (natural oil and gas) and hunting wolves in the remote Yamal peninsula in North West Siberia goes disastrously wrong. But they escape one kind of peril only to find themselves in an even more terrifying situation. Separated by blizzards and avalanches, lost in a breathtakingly beautiful but deadly frozen Arctic wilderness, suffering from frostbite and hunger, listening to the wolves howl and the packs draw closer, it seems that this time they cannot possibly live to tell their tale...

Praise for Steve Backshall

Steve Backshall's first foray into fiction tells the story of Saker and Sinter. On the run, they find themselves turned into an unlikely pair of eco warriors. Fast paced with a serious message. ANGELS AND URCHINS

Exciting to read and vividly brought to life in the dramatic backgrounds of India and China, this is also an important story about protecting wild life. -- Julia Eccleshare LOVEREADING4KIDS

Tiger Wars is an excellent debut. Backshall's pacy narrative carries us with him, educating along the way, and his characters fascinate. This won't be the last we hear from Sinter and Saker. We Love This Book

A great adventure story with equal amounts of tigers, wars... and thrills galore! -- Daniel Wood (young reviewer) FIRST NEWS

Backshall has dreamed up a gripping action thriller in the heat of India. The wicked Wolf who's in charge of the plot to nab Saker, makes for an excellent villain and Backshall isn't afraid to show his vulnerabilities either. Of course there's an animal theme here and the message that poaching and making money from beautiful creatures is a bad thing is heartfelt but doesn't get in the way of a gripping adventure. FLIPSIDE

Zoologist, presenter, adventurer and now novelist, Steve Backshall is quite a talent... Backshall fills the novel with information about the natural world and the ways humans are conspiring to damage it - unless Sinter and Saker can stop them. But with a packed narrative and pacey language, this series will be welcomed by his growing audience. Indeed though, I received two review copies, I have only one left - my nine year old son won't give the other back. -- Tom Jackson BBC WILDLIFE

About the Author

Steve Backshall

Steve Backshall is the hugely popular and fearless presenter of the BBC kids' series DEADLY 60 and LIVE AND DEADLY; his eventful life is well documented and he recently hit the headlines after being bitten by a Caiman live on camera! Steve travels the world to learn about the most inspiring predators, from boxing mantis shrimp to charging tigers. Steve also regularly writes articles for newspapers and magazines including the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER and BBC WILDLIFE and is an inspirational public speaker.

Steve says: "Though I seem to have found myself unwittingly lost in the world of wildlife television, I always wanted to be a writer. As a child it was Gerald Durrell, Jack London and Willard Price who inspired me, and I'm elated that Orion have given me the opportunity to follow in their more illustrious footsteps. I have so many incredible adventures, tall tales and animal anecdotes from my lifetime travelling the world, having been to a hundred countries in every conceivable environment. Over the next few years with the help of all the fine folk at Orion, I look forward to sharing these stories with a world of (hopefully) willing readers."
