Many of her best-loved characters feature in these stories and the more threadbare her bears and toys are, the more authentic and lovable they seem. Her illustrations are so realistic that you really feel you could reach out and stroke the bears and it’s testament to her skill as an author that that’s what every reader will want to do. The stories are soothing and often have a gentle moral about friendship and working together.
