Reader Reviews

Kids love to read and one of our Lovereading4kids Reader Review panel members - William Sheehan, age 8 - couldn't wait to tell us about the latest in the Wimpy Kid series, The Long Haul.  You can read his review below.

'This is the best Wimpy Kid book so far. The family go on a road trip. Everything starts to go wrong when they get lost and come across seagulls, pigs, motels and other people. It was a laugh out loud book and of course I couldn't put it down.

Hurry up Jeff and write some more and please make all of the Wimpy Kid books into films. If you enjoy the Wimpy Kid books you will love this one. If you have never read Wimpy kid start reading them now you will not be disappointed!'

Synopsis

The Long Haul by Jeff Kinney

A family road trip is supposed to be a lot of fun...unless, of course, you're the Heffleys. The journey starts off full of promise, then quickly takes several wrong turns. Gas station bathrooms, crazed seagulls, a fender bender, and a runaway pig - not exactly Greg Heffley's idea of a good time. But even the worst road trip can turn into an adventure - and this is one the Heffleys won't soon forget.

Greg Heffley and his family hit the road in author-illustrator Jeff Kinney's ninth instalment of the phenomenal bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

For the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, I’m taking the Heffleys out of their home environment and sending them out on the road,” says Jeff Kinney. “Writing about an epic family road trip has really got my creative juices flowing, and I think this could be the funniest book yet."

Francesca Dow, m.d. of Penguin Children’s, said: “Millions of kids in the UK are readers because of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. And Jeff’s new book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, is the funniest yet. Alongside Jeff’s funniest tour ever, this is set to be another great milestone for this incredibly popular and original superbrand.”

Jeff Kinney is the second biggest selling writer of children’s fiction in the UK this year (behind David Walliams), and sales of his books totalled £2.9m from the beginning of the year until the end of August, according to Nielsen BookScan.
The eighth book in the series, Hard Luck, had a UK first printing of 800,000 copies, making it Penguin's biggest-ever first printing of a children's book.
Dates of the tour in December 2014 are yet to be confirmed but details will be forthcoming on this site as soon as we're advised by the publisher.

You can download a fun new facebook app, Cheese Touch - and find out lots more about Wimpy Kid at the Wimpy Kid Club!

You can also discover Greg on the big screen in any one of the three Wimpy Kid Movie box office smashes. His original Diary of a Wimpy Kid was voted 'Best Children's Book of the Last 10 Years' by UK readers.

It's not essential to read the books in order but in case you want to here's the order...
