The Lovereading4Kids comment

This is a perfect book for new parents, though it will make any parent laugh, no matter the age of their offspring! King Baby is a tiny tyrant! From his cot he commands his subjects, an increasingly frazzled looking mum and dad, demanding that his every whim be met, and graciously accepting the worship of all around, benevolently bestowing smiles and kisses in return. The incongruity of the appearance of baby, an egg-like blob, and the extent of his power is very funny, as is his obliviousness to the unreasonableness of his demands. It’s very true, and simply hilarious! In a lovely twist at the end King Baby, now a big boy, hands over his crown to his little sister, Queen Baby. ~ Andrea Reece

Synopsis

King Baby by Kate Beaton

The perfect gift for any family expecting a new baby, this is a laugh-out-loud take on the joy (and exhaustion!) of having a new lovable little tyrant. All hail King Baby! King Baby is gracious - bestowing smiles on his public, allowing tickles and hugs, and posing for photo after adorable photo. But this teeny tiny royal ruler also has many demands, and when his faithful subjects can't quite keep up, King Baby must take matters into his own hands...

Reviews

Also from Walker comes King Baby, Kate Beaton's hilarious take on baby solipsism and parental abasement. [...] Beaton's second picture book is rich in egg-shaped infant chrysalises and her trademark manic humour, which will appeal to both parent and child. The Guardian The grandiosity of his [King Baby's] speech echoes Beaton's popular Hark! A Vagrant web comic, and will amuse readers both young and old. The Irish Times Everything about this book is funny: even the title itself is smirk-inducing. The cover is a joyous thing to behold and the joy continues... King Baby is genuinely brilliant. The clever text and genius illustration play against each other to hilarious effect. King Baby is a fantastic premise, expertly executed. It will have adults and children in stitches, and like all great comedy, it shows something true. Buy it for every new parent you know. Booktrust
