The Lovereading4Kids comment

April 2017 Book of the Month Here are four more adventures for Mango and her best friend Bambang the tapir and they are if anything even more appealing than previous stories, perfect fiction for young readers. In this set of self-contained but interlinked stories Mango is determined to let Bambang experience as much as possible and in one particularly lovely episode creates a snowy day for him, in the middle of summer. The two are reunited with Bambang’s precocious little cousin Guntur too, at the premier of his new film. Beautifully illustrated, simply told but full of incident, the charm of these stories derives not just from their fun adventures but from the deep affection between the two central characters. Lovely!

Bambang and Paddington share the same innocence and capacity for causing chaos, while readers will also enjoy Shirley Hughes’s Dixie O’Day books, Pugs of the Frozen North by Sarah McIntyre and Philip Reeve, and Elisabeth Beresford’s stories of the Wombles. ~ Andrea Reece

Synopsis

Mango & Bambang: Superstar Tapir by Polly Faber

Mango and Bambang reach for the stars in the fourth book of this charming illustrated series about a little girl and a tapir, described by The Sunday Times as having real charm ...reminiscent of Paddington.

Both Mango and Bambang are left star-struck when Bambang's cousin comes to town with Hollywood actress Minty Verbena. But when disaster strikes, Bambang is the true star of the show. Superstar Tapir is Book Four in this delightful series for younger readers.

Reviews

Reviews for the Mango & Bambang series:

One of my very favourites, the delicious Mango and Bambang return in a third collection of stories, along with a rather mischievous mini tapir. The Bookseller

Vulliamy's glorious black and white pictures and Faber's words combine perfectly [...] Each story is the perfect length for bedtime and it's an irresistible package too, all coloured page edges and foil cover. My six-year-old's book of the month. -- Fiona Noble The Bookseller

Absolutely charming collection of illustrated stories about the unexpected friendship of Mango, a little girl, and Bambang, an Asian tapir. It has a classic feel, but a very modern sensibility brave, clever, kind and adventurous [...] Gorgeously illustrated in a limited black, white and purple palette by Vulliamy, it's a modern classic in the making. Huffington Post

This book is good. So, so, utterly perfectly so. It's golden. Did You Ever Stop to Think blog
