The Lovereading4Kids comment

Children and adults will take very different things from this clever picture book but both will enjoy it enormously. Flynn is excited, he’s got a new bed – we guess that he’s moving into a big bed for the first time. But something’s already in it – an enormous walrus, and it doesn’t seem very comfortable. Flynn does his best ferrying up snacks and milk and extra pillows but it seems that neither of them will get any sleep, let alone Mum and Dad. Children will love the absurdity of the situation and adults will identify with the long-suffering parents trying unsuccessfully to settle Flynn down for the night. Lots of fun, and this provides lots to talk about too. ~ Andrea Reece

Synopsis

There's a Walrus in My Bed! by Ciara Flood

An adorable bedtime tale from the author-illustrator of Those Pesky Rabbits. Perfectly captures the childhood milestone of moving from cot to bed.

Tonight, for the first time, Flynn is going to sleep in a proper big boy bed. But when bedtime rolls around, he just can't get to sleep. The reason? There's a walrus in his bed, of course! Mum and Dad play along while Flynn gives Walrus blankets, snacks, milk and a top-secret trip to the toilet, but it doesn't look like anyone is getting much sleep tonight.

The very lovable walrus at the centre of this story was inspired by the famous walrus exhibit at the Horniman Museum in South London.

Reviews

Praise for Those Pesky Rabbits:

Reminiscent of the style of the great Emily Gravett, Ciara has created divine scenes, humour, depth and emotion, with each and every image. From the 'go away' doormat to the little mouse scampering around each double-page spread, the tiny details are also a delight. One of my favourite picture books so far this year. Don't miss it.' - Tania McC artney, Kids' Book Review

'This is one of those rare and special books that gives you goosebumps, even after repeated readings. Told with minimal text and expressive illustrations which speak volumes, it teaches us to be open-minded about newness, and in particular, new people.' - Rowan Stanfield, Carousel Magazine

About the Author

Ciara Flood

As a child, Ciara Flood enjoyed nothing more than snuggling up in bed and reading Asterix. She would spend hours creating stories and characters of her own. Now she is grown up she still loves doing these things, but she is lucky enough to do them as a job (except reading Asterix - she still does that for fun). After studying Visual Communications in Dublin, Ciara travelled the world, funding her trips by working as a fruit-picker, hot-dog vendor and dog-calendar seller. She now lives with her partner and daughter in London.
