The Lovereading4Kids comment

A loathing of sprouts is taken to a delightfully silly extreme in this nutty Christmas picture book. Jack can imagine only one thing worse than eating sprouts: the sprouts eating you! Cue the arrival of Sproutzilla, a twenty foot high sprout with destruction on its mind (think Brassica Park)! The adventure that follows sees Jack and his sister destroy Sproutzilla and his army in the only way possible. It’s thoroughly daft, but certain to have children giggling hysterically. Sproutzilla is a wonderful creation, a terrifying sickly lime green colour, and Christmas dinner may never be the same again. Great fun! ~ Andrea Reece

Synopsis

Sproutzilla vs. Christmas by Tom Jamieson

Jack loves everything about Christmas. Except for one thing: he does not like Brussels sprouts. When Jack's parents bring home the largest sprout he has ever seen, things are about to get out of control. Sproutzilla is the meanest, greenest Christmas-ruining vegetable ever and now he's heading straight towards Santa! It's up to Jack to save Christmas, and there's only one way to do it . . . He'll have to eat the sprouts!

Sproutzilla vs. Christmas is Tom Jamieson and Mike Byrne's first book with Macmillan. Their strikingly bold and funny story about a rampaging sprout will convince even the most reluctant eaters about the importance of eating their vegetables.

About the Author

Tom Jamieson moved to London from Australia in 1990 where he decided to try his hand at writing for radio. Luckily the BBC liked his work and he's been writing for shows such as The News Quiz and other topical sketch shows since 1995. Tom also writes for television programmes such as Dead Ringers, and his main job since 1999 has been writing for Private Eye. Tom first started writing for children when he co-wrote the children's sitcom Scoop for CBBC between 2009 and 2011. Now he is turning his hand to children's books, and Sproutzilla Versus Christmas is Tom's first picture book with Macmillan. Mike Byrne grew up on the Wirral near Liverpool before moving to Wales to study Illustration at Glyndwr University. He began his career as a designer for a greetings card company and then became a studio manager for a licensed stationery designer before leaving to fulfil his dream of illustrating children's books. Mike now lives in Surrey with his wife, cat and two sons where he spends his days doodling and illustrating children's books fuelled only by tea and biscuits. Mike illustrated the Jack's Mega Machines series for Simon & Schuster. Sproutzilla Versus Christmas is his first title with Macmillan.
