An absolutely delightful bind-up of the six titles that is completely perfect for reading to young children. Families all over the world have treasured Winnie since she first hit our bookshops 20 years ago. Winnie is the zaniest character ever and the stories are throroughly entertaining and brimming with a zest for life. Rest assured young children will be drawn in to the wonderful adventures of Winnie the Witch and her friends and as they grow older will delve into them on their own. Publishers Oxford have this autumn produced new editions of all the titles in the Winnie series complete with some really original and unique endpapers to each of the titles created by children from around the world. With Korky Paul’s vivid and wonderful illustrations Winnie is set to come alive to a new generation of readers and imaginations will run riot.

About the Author

Valerie Thomas

Valerie Thomas was born in Melbourne, Australia, and has lived there for most of her life, apart from six years spent in Europe, where she worked in England, France and Norway. She is a teacher, and has taught in primary, secondary, and special schools in Australia and England as well as lecturing in English Teaching Method in a Teachers' College in Melbourne.

For many years she worked as an educational researcher and curriculum consultant in the area of spelling, and has written extensively on the subject. Her other main interest is travel. She has travelled to most corners of the world, and has written about her travels: the first piece of writing she had published was an account of her experience picking grapes for the champagne harvest in France. She is now trying to organise her life so that she never has to experience another Winter.

In 1987 her phenomenally successful children’s book Winnie the Witch, illustrated by Korky Paul, was published by Oxford University Press and won the Children’s Book of the Year Award. She used to live with a big black cat exactly like Wilbur.

It has introduced my children to books we hadn’t come across before. Real children’s reviews gives a great insight into what others think to
