The Lovereading4Kids comment

Shortlisted for the Marsh Award 2006.

We were captivated and spellbound by the power of the story and the quality of the narrative and I’m confident that children from 8 upwards and adults too, will devour it. You don’t have to be a fan of fantasy or of stories with dragons in it to love it.

Synopsis

Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke

To be a Dragon Rider is surely every child’s wish – to fly on a dragon’s back to the highest mountains of the world, making lasting friendships along the way. This happens to Ben, an abandoned boy, who has been chosen by destiny to search for a legendary place of refuge for the last silver dragons on earth.

Dragon Rider has all the storytelling qualities we have come to expect from Cornelia Funke: an ‘old-fashioned’ story brimming with remarkable detail, imbued with a warm belief in humanity.

About the Author

Cornelia Funke

Cornelia Funke is the New York Times bestselling author of the Inkheart trilogy, The Thief Lord and a whole host of popular children’s novels and picture books.

Born in 1958 in the German town of Dorsten, Cornelia initially worked as an illustrator but soon began writing her own stories, quickly establishing a reputation as one of Germany’s best-loved children’s authors.

Her international breakthrough came with the fantasy novel Dragon Rider, which spent 78 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Inkheart the movie, starring Brendan Fraser, Helen Mirren and Paul Bettany, was released in 2008.

Reckless marked the start of Funke’s exciting new Mirrorworld series, and was followed by Fearless.

Cornelia Funke now lives in California and is working on several new books.
