A brilliantly taut psychological thriller from Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize shortlisted author Tim Wynne-Jones. A real page-turner and one that will stay in your mind after you’ve finished it. There’s a real brooding tensionto this haunting story of secrets and shock revelations. If so, you may well enjoy two of the author’s other recent thrillers, The Survival Game and The Boy in the Burning House.

Dec hasn't seen his mother for six years. Having moved into a new home with his father, Dec rarely visits the old family home, until one day he makes a horrific discovery there - a man crushed to death in the hall. Was it an accident or is it more than a coincidence that Dec recognises the would-be thief? Suddenly, the house is alive with memories, prompting Dec to investigate the past and piece together the puzzle which will reveal the elusive truth about his mother's disappearance.

About the Author

Tim Wynne-jones

Tim was born in Cheshire and moved to Canada at the age of four. He now lives in the wilderness in Ontario, in a house he designed himself, which sits on 76 acres of rough and tumble landscape, the perfect inspiration for The Survival Game.

Tim began his writing career one summer holiday using a rented Smith Corona electronic typewriter. His first book won a prize, and Tim decided “this writing thing might be fun”.Since then, he has won numerous awards including the Canadian Library Association’s Children’s Book of the Year Award three times; the American Library Association Popular Paperback for Young Adults; the Edgar Award of the Mystery Writers of America for The Boy in the Burning House, and the Governor General’s Award, twice, for Some of the Kinder Planets and The Survival Game.

A few little known facts about Tim:

- He co-wrote sixteen songs for the Jim Henson show Fraggle Rock.

- He is lead singer and songwriter in a band called Louis the Dreamer.
