The Lovereading comment:

10+ (Years 6 and 7, KS2-3). A fresh new look for the handy Oxford Pocket School Dictionary with 45,000 entries, extra central supplement on Study Notes and very durable linen finish cover and sturdy binding. It has all the text of the Oxford School Dictionary but in pocket form and yet still with an extremely accessible page design. The focus of the introduction is on all important grammar.

Synopsis

Oxford Pocket School Dictionary by Andrew Delahunty

Identical to the School Dictionary, just in a pocket size, each entry contains clear numbered meanings, word classes, inflections, easy pronunciation guides, supporting example sentences and notes to help with using the words accurately. There are word origins for all root words. Guidewords at the top of each page and the full alphabet with a tab on the letter of the page make it very easy to navigate; the page design is clear and straightforward. There is a friendly and useful guide to using the dictionary dealing with FAQs such as, What do you use a dictionary for? How do I find the words I want? Also useful are the prefixes, suffixes and words and phrases from around the world that are given in full at the back.

Reviews

‘Design: Another large format dictionary, but that pays off in a spacious, eminently clear design. Accessibility: Clear and accessible for pupils aged 11 and over. Content: Forty thousand words, with word origins for all, as well as grammar notes and a separate reference section, for example, countries of the world. Verdict: Superb value for money and the most classroom friendly text. Best buy.’ Times Educational Supplement
