The Lovereading4Kids comment
This is a fantastic debut that’s full of magic, adventure and excitement that you can almost taste. Young Yelena is about to be executed for murder but is given a reprieve if she becomes a food taster for a guy who is at risk of assassination. She agrees but all is ot quite as it seems and her situation grows precarious to say the least and she faces choices, some of which, threaten her very existence. This original debut will have any teenager hooked from the start but if you’re a fan of William Nicholson and Philip Pullman then it’s a must.
Poison Study by Maria V Snyder
About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She’ll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia. So Yelena becomes his food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her poison and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison. Tyring to excape her new dilemma disasters keep mounting and her life is threatened once again and choices must be made.
