The Lovereading4Kids comment

A real treasure trove for 8-12 year olds and their parents. Brilliant reads chosen by dozens of well known writers make up this excellent reference tool that was voted the ‘best book with facts by Blue Peter back in 2004. There’s adventure, fantasy, mystery, stories about families and friendships, animal stories and all listed by title by A-Z. Here at Lovereading we feel this guide alongside its sister guides The Ultimate First Book Guide and The Ultimate Teen Book Guide complement what we are doing both on Lovereading and Lovereading4kids – that of instilling a love of books from an early age. Of course, in addition Lovereading and Lovereading4kids are also able to whet your appetite via extracts of our ‘featured’ titles as a consequence of being on the web. So, you can always go online and see if we at Lovereading have featured the title you are interested in and read the extract. It’s likely that many of your favourite authors (see a selection of the contributors below) have recommended over 700 books, so prepare to be inspired by this guide. Whatever your taste there's something for everyone.

About the Author

Since editing The Ultimate Book Guide in 2004, Daniel Hahn has curated two exhibitions, lived in Germany, edited a book about the Globe Theatre, translated quite a lot and started writing a new book. He’s done little bits of teaching, organised a couple of charity fundraisers, and, you know, other things like that. As you can see, he’s still got no intention of getting a proper job.

Leonie Flynn lives surrounded by boxes. Usually she lives surrounded by books, but moving has put paid to that. When not writing, staring at boxes or being heartlessly cruel to young boys (she’s a librarian at a school) she attempts to read every book she reads about and to write every story she imagines. Actually, she fails at both, but still manages to remain remarkably cheerful.

Susan Reuben is senior publisher at Egmont Books. Four days before The Ultimate Teen Book Guide was due to be delivered to the publishers she delivered her first child: Isaac Harry. When not feeding her baby, Susan enjoys sleeping.
