The Lovereading4Kids comment

It was with a thrill and eager anticipation that we at Lovereading4kids saw this fabulous new series of young fiction 5+ age range. Finding good books for those children moving on from picture books is always a tough call as there’s a real dearth of good publishing in this area. Winnie is already an established character in the world of picture books and Korky Paul is of course synonymous in the world of book illustration. Each title contains four complete crazily funny stories featuring Winnie, everyone’s favourite witch along with her supporting cast including her big black cat, Wilbur. There’s humour, slapstick and moments of real drama within each story. Pure magic. Mini Winnie is also available.

A small number of children were lucky enough to be invited to read and review Mini Winnie which is the freader reviewsirst Winnie Young Fiction title. Here's a taster....'Each page of the book is crammed full of really cool jokes and Korky Paul’s illustrations are great, making me chuckle away for hours. It’s a fantastic book and I can’t wait to get hold of more of the series to see what Winnie gets up to.'....

Synopsis

Whizz-bang Winnie by Laura Owen

Life is never dull for Winnie the Witch! In 'Hot Cross Winnie' a trip to the shops turns into a desperate hunt for a missing Wilbur; in 'Winnie's Book Day' a problem with reading doesn't stop Winnie from bringing stories to life for a whole class full of children; in 'Winnie Gets Cracking' she creates a 'chocodile' capable of laying chocolate eggs; and in 'Whizz-Bang Winnie' Winnie gets her skates on to speed past the motorised competition in a 'hot wheels' race. Four crazily funny stories featuring everyone's favourite witch, her big black cat, Wilbur, and a zany supporting cast of new characters. Korky Paul's exuberant black line illustrations complement the humour, slapstick, and moments of real drama that run through each story. Pure magic!

About the Author

Winnie the Witch was created by Valerie Thomas and all the Winnie picture books are written by her and brilliantly and zanily illustrated by the incomparable Korky Paul. The Winnie the Witch read aloud titles, perfect for those children just beginning to make the move from picture books to reading aloud or reading alone are written by Laura Owen and illustrated by Korky Paul. Laura has had unrestricted access to the world of Winnie and Wilbur. She has discovered hitherto unknown details about the life and mishaps of everyone’s favourite witch. Winnie has let Laura into her home and talked to her frankly about the many adventures she has shared with Wilbur. In order for this bond of trust to continue between Winnie and Laura, Laura has chosen to keep her profile as low as possible so there's nothing more we can tell you.
