The Lovereading comment:

An elegant, illuminating, mesmerising and highly accessible modern adaptation based on the play by William Shakespeare.  This stylish graphic-novel adaptation boasts a chic modern cast, high drama, and all the dark, familiar beauty and charm of Venice. With elegant drawings and a faithful but succinct adaptation, Gareth Hinds pays homage to the Bard while luring modern readers with a stylish new vision.

Ideal as a companion book for anyone studying the original play.

Graphic novels are growing in mainstream popularity, especially for encouraging reluctant readers. To view other Graphic novels featured on Lovereading4kids click here.

Synopsis

Merchant of Venice (Graphic novel) by Gareth Hinds

The Merchant of Venice tells the tale of young Bassanio, who, to win the love of fair Portia, entangles his dearest friend, Antonio, in a dangerous bargain with the moneylender Shylock. Only Bassanio's heartfelt efforts – and a clever intervention by Portia – will save Antonio from paying Shylock "a pound of flesh".

About The Author

Gareth Hinds has been drawing visual stories since his earliest childhood. Beowulf is his first fully painted graphic novel. He says, “I really enjoy working with classics for the richness and depth of the material. Beowulf gave me the chance to explore one of the traditional comic-book genres - the superhero story - in a more timeless way, without the skintight suits and some of the other wacky conventions of that genre. I want to show people how cool a story this really is.” He lives in Massachusetts, USA.
