Julia Eccleshare's comment:
Winner of the Branford Boase Award 2010
Julia Eccleshare, our editorial expert and chairman of the Branford Boase Award judges says: ‘Stolen is a wonderfully accomplished first novel. Sure-footed and without a word wasted Lucy has created a fantastic sense of place. Intense, vivid and very cleverly told Stolen is a worthy winner.'
Lovereading comment:
The lines between love and obsession, and love and dependency, can blur until they don’t exist – almost. Stolen is a love story like no other you will read. Every dark manifestation of infatuation, madness, obsession, dependency, desire and need is explored here. But in this sensitive and intelligent debut we find also kindness, altruism, self sacrifice, true friendship, forgiveness, understanding - and a surprising ending that feels just right.

Synopsis
Stolen by Lucy ChristopherSixteen year old Gemma is kidnapped from Bangkok airport and taken to the Australian Outback. This wild and desolate landscape becomes almost a character in the book, so vividly is it described. Ty, her captor, is no stereotype. He is young, fit and completely gorgeous. This new life in the wilderness has been years in the planning. He loves only her, wants only her. Under the hot glare of the Australian sun, cut off from the world outside, can the force of his love make Gemma love him back? The story takes the form of a letter, written by Gemma to Ty, reflecting on those strange and disturbing months in the outback.
Reviews
A message from the publisher:
'Stolen is sublimely written and nail-biting in its emotional intensity.'
About The Author
Lucy was born in Wales but grew up in Australia, living in Melbourne from aged 9 until the end of her Undergraduate degree. As a child, she loved camping in the bush and exploring the overgrown creek at the back of her house. Since then, she has been fascinated by the wild places of Australia, and has made several trips to her favourite part; the Outback. Now living in the UK again, Lucy has earned Distinction in a Creative Writing MA from Bath Spa University. She is currently undertaking a PhD to explore the ways that Australian literature represents wild places, particularly in its writing for young adults. Her debut novel, STOLEN, explores her thoughts about the Australian desert in the story of a teenage girl who is kidnapped and taken there.
