Julia Eccleshare's comment:

THIS VOLUME -

Volume 1 - Tintin in the Land of the Soviets; Tintin in the Congo

An essential volume for collectors:This volume includes the first two stories about Tintin created by Herge, Tintin in the land of the Soviets (1929) and Tintin in the Congo (1931).  Both books are very much of their time.  In his portrayal of the Belgian Congo, the young author reflects the colonial, paternalistic attitudes of his era.  Some of today’s readers may find this stereotypical portrayal of the African people offensive.

For this reason we have no extract for this volume on the Lovereading4kids site.  Should you wish to view it, please go to www.lovereading.co.uk.

Tintin, the most celebrated boy-detective, has been given a highly attractive and distinctive new look in handsome, small scale editions which read more like books. Each volume contains two or three of the original Tintin titles which, though reduced in size, reproduce the illustrations and the text as boldly and brightly as the originals. For collectors, existing fans of Tintin and for the ever-growing number of new recruits, these 8 volumes include every Tintin title including Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, Tintin in the Congo and one unfinished title that was published after the author’s death.  They really are an essential purchase for young and old alike.

About The Author

Herge

Tintin was created in 1929 by the Belgian cartoonist Hergé, then aged just 21, for a weekly children's newspaper supplement. Tintin is a young reporter, aided in his adventures by his faithful fox terrier dog Snowy (Milou in French). In Tintin, Hergé created a hero who embodied human qualities and virtues, without any faults.
