The Lovereading4Kids comment

As relevant as when it was first published, Michael Foreman’s very first book is beautifully reissued in this 50th anniversary edition. General Jodpur loves to train his soldiers making them the best fighting force in the world. But, one day, he discovers the beauty of the countryside and realises that saving the flowers and trees and creatures who live in them is more important than fighting. An important message delivered in striking pictures.

Synopsis

The General by Michael Foreman

There once was a general who fell off his horse, only to discover the beauty of flowers and nature. From that day on, he vowed to change the world around him by embracing peace. Created in 1961 — and retaining the essence of that decade — this picture book illustrated by three-time Kate Greenaway Medal winner Michael Foreman is lovingly restored in a beautiful edition sure to appeal to longtime fans and new readers alike.
