Julia Eccleshare's comment:

Silliness of all kind is wittily celebrated in this delightful picture book. Sensible and handsome George is surprised by the silliness of Jess the girl he falls in love with. In fact, he is so surprised the he decides he cannot marry her. But then, he sets off to find out if there are other silly people around too and discovers that there are many who are just as silly – if not sillier! So, George returns to marry Jess after all. Tony Ross’s vibrant illustrations capture the many different kinds of silliness there are in the world.

About The Author

Tony Ross

Born in 1939 in Wandsworth, South London, Tony never though about a career in art, but says he fell into it after his dream of being a cowboy disintegrated when a letter he wrote to John Wayne was never replied to.

After Liverpool College of Art, Tony became an art director at an Advertising Agency but after a particularly bad day in the office he gave up his job to go into teaching at Manchester Polytechnic.

His first book was published in 1976. As well as his own books he has illustrated books for authors such as Roald Dahl, Paula Danziger and Michael Palin. His series of books written with Jeanne Willis featuring the extra terrestrial teacher, Dr Xargle, has established a huge following of fans.
