Julia Eccleshare's comment:
Favourite witch Winnie is back for a new adventure and this time she’s off into space! The problem is, while Winnie happily jumps aboard the space rocket and loves whizzing around the moon and the stars, Wilbur, her cat, is terrified. And rightly so it turns out when the rocket is set upon by space rabbits who eat it up. Things look very bad for Winnie and Wilbur in this entertaining new adventure but luckily, Winnie has a little bit of magic up her sleeve.

Synopsis
Winnie in Space by Valerie ThomasWinnie is fascinated by space and she decides the time is right for a little space exploration. Wilbur is not so sure. Winnie's magical rocket is quite tricky to steer through the universe and poor Wilbur can't even bear to look. He feels a little less anxious when they land on a faraway planet and Winnie unpacks their special space picnic. The inhabitants of the planet are small, with long ears and twitchy noses. They're curious and friendly but these space rabbits have rather strange eating habits - they munch on metal! And, for the space rabbits, Winnie's rocket is particularly tasty. So when it is nibbled clean away, Winnie has to use some quick thinking and some magic to keep the rabbits happy and to rustle up an alternative means of getting home. This glorious galactic picture book takes Winnie and Wilbur on an amazing journey into outer space. But however exciting flying saucers, shooting stars and space rabbits might be, Winnie's a witch who knows there's no place like home!
Reviews
Paul's artwork is as dynamic and arresting as ever. His comic touch is perfectly judged, stretching the simple story within reach of a wide age group. Guardian Praise for Winnie's Amazing Pumpkin 'Every page is an utter delight to pore over-there's so much going on, so much detail.TheBookbag
About The Author
Valerie Thomas was born in Melbourne, Australia, and has lived there for most of her life, apart from six years spent in Europe, where she worked in England, France and Norway. She is a teacher, and has taught in primary, secondary, and special schools in Australia and England as well as lecturing in English Teaching Method in a Teachers' College in Melbourne.
For many years she worked as an educational researcher and curriculum consultant in the area of spelling, and has written extensively on the subject. Her other main interest is travel. She has travelled to most corners of the world, and has written about her travels: the first piece of writing she had published was an account of her experience picking grapes for the champagne harvest in France. She is now trying to organise her life so that she never has to experience another Winter.
In 1987 her phenomenally successful children’s book Winnie the Witch, illustrated by Korky Paul, was published by Oxford University Press and won the Children’s Book of the Year Award. She used to live with a big black cat exactly like Wilbur.
