The Lovereading4Kids comment

Classic story-telling from the master of the detective novel. Ace detective Sherlock Holmes and his partner Dr Watson are called to a house where something sinister has taken place. The police cannot get any clues as to why there is the body of a dead man with a look of horror on his face but no sign of a struggle. Or, what the letters written in blood on the walls could possibly mean. With his customary powers of deduction Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson follow the threads of the mystery through grimy backwaters of London all the way to South America. Rich in detail and full of surprise, it is a gripping story. A second story, 'The Country of the Saints,' is also included in this volume.
