The Lovereading4Kids comment

This gripping psychological thriller captures the power of a young apprentice portrait painter to see deep into the character of those he is painting. When Johann’s talent is spotted by master painter Hugo he has little idea of his capabilities. Johann learns his craft from Hugo but he also learns that his painting has an unusual power. Johann has to fight to keep himself free of the demon he creates for himself. Richard Knight vividly creates the world of the artist.

The Lovereading Comment:

A wonderfully inspirational historical novel that sets the world of an artist and his apprentice to life.

The Court Painter's Apprentice by Richard Knight

'Paint what you see, Johann; not what you think you see.' This is the advice that Hugo, master portrait painter, gives to his protege, Johann. But Johann's talent for painting the truth runs deeper than anyone can ever imagine. He soon discovers he has more than the power to paint a person's soul. He can alter it...

Girl with a Pearl Earring meets The Picture of Dorian Gray in this exciting, haunting novel.

'The Court Painter's Apprentice is a magical little book, reading much like an old fairytale, full of intrigue, moral dilemma and thoughtfulness. Hugely atmospheric and utterly riveting from start to finish, this is a book not to be missed.' - UK Book Tours blog
