The Vampire Hunters (The Vampire series Book 2) by Pete Johnson

On my thirteenth birthday, my life changed for ever. That's when I learned the shocking truth: I'm a half-vampire. Think that sounds cool? Think again! I've been attacked by an evil vampire bat, had huge cravings for my best friend's blood, and nearly died from eating a pizza (half-vampires aren't great with garlic). Writing my secret blog is the only thing that's kept me from going completely crazy. As if life couldn't get any more complicated, there have been some vicious attacks in the local woods. Vampire-mad Tallulah (definitely not my girlfriend) thinks a super-vampire is behind them - and she's desperate to prove it, with a mysterious chain that's supposed to glow red-hot when a vampire is close by. And I have a horrible feeling that the chain's going to turn red-hot any day now...

'It's a light-hearted, quick-paced read that is perfect for teens and tweens, but that I even enjoyed myself as a grown-up ! It's a great mixture of excitement, humour and slightly scary bits but nothing at all that will give younger readers nightmares. 4.5 / 5' - Mad House Family Reviews

'The structure...allows for both rapid page turning to find out what happens next, as well as making it very easy to put down and come back to later...As with many of Pete's other books, the stand out element of his writing is the humour.' - Book Zone for Boys

'Nicely woven into this adventure story is an excellent treatment of the interaction between boys and girls during their formative years. This can only enhance the experience of young readers. The story has many twist and turns, it involves several other characters, all of whom are thoughtfully portrayed. It also manages to keep the reader constantly in trepidation throughout the pages of the blog and although the story is partly resolved in the last few pages, the very last lines provide yet another moment of suspense!' - Bookbitz

'The Vampire Hunters is another fantastically written book by Pete Johnson. Packed full of adventure, laughs, intriguing characters and a little bit of blood, this is a must read!' - Scribbler

About the Author

Pete Johnson

When Pete Johnson was ten, he wrote a fan letter to Dodie Smith – author of The Hundred and One Dalmatians. She wrote back to him and the two began exchanging letters. “She was the first person to encourage me to become a writer,” says Pete, who began sending stories to publishers at the age of eleven.

Born in Winchester, Pete studied English at Birmingham University and went on to try a variety of jobs before teaching English and Drama at a secondary school in Buckinghamshire. It was there that he wrote his first novel for teenagers which became an immediate hit. He was a film critic for Radio One before becoming a full time writer.

Pete's novels have achieved global success and he is now published in 24 translations. He has visited Europe to meet his readers as well as schools and libraries all over the UK. Pete inspires a special loyalty among his readers.

Pete says: 'one of the best things an author can do is show the reader he, or she, is not on their own.'
