Synopsis
Winnie the Witch: 25th Anniversary signed hardback by Valerie ThomasWinnie the Witch is a modern classic in the world of picture books. In it we meet Winnie who lives in a big black house in the forest. A house that she shares with her big black cat, Wilbur. And that, so the story goes, is how the trouble begins. Whenever Wilbur curls up on a black chair or the black carpet, Winnie either sits on him or takes a tumble. This has got to stop! So Winnie uses her magic wand to change Wilbur's colour. But this leads to a different kind of problem: poor Wilbur doesn't like his multi-coloured fur and climbs up a tree, feeling very sorry for himself. Then Winnie has a wonderful idea that will stop the accidents and keep Wilbur happy. She waves her magic wand with spectacular and colourful results. She's funny, she makes mistakes, she's the world's most entertaining witch! Celebrate 25 years of Winnie and her cat Wilbur with our special anniversary edition. The hardback edition will include a bookplate signed by both author and illustrator.

About The Author
Valerie Thomas was born in Melbourne, Australia, and has lived there for most of her life, apart from six years spent in Europe, where she worked in England, France and Norway. She is a teacher, and has taught in primary, secondary, and special schools in Australia and England as well as lecturing in English Teaching Method in a Teachers' College in Melbourne.
For many years she worked as an educational researcher and curriculum consultant in the area of spelling, and has written extensively on the subject. Her other main interest is travel. She has travelled to most corners of the world, and has written about her travels: the first piece of writing she had published was an account of her experience picking grapes for the champagne harvest in France. She is now trying to organise her life so that she never has to experience another Winter.
In 1987 her phenomenally successful children’s book Winnie the Witch, illustrated by Korky Paul, was published by Oxford University Press and won the Children’s Book of the Year Award. She used to live with a big black cat exactly like Wilbur.
