Julia Eccleshare's comment:
Interest Age 8-12 Reading Age 8+.
Best-known for his Horrible Histories, Terry Deary is just as skilful in telling this dramatic football story. When Jud gets her first proper pair of football boots for Christmas she thinks she will burst with happiness. And that’s before she has even kicked a ball with them. When her father embarrassingly propels her into a match with much older children she finds the boots are something very special indeed. A great story packed with excitement.
Written by one of the most successful and readable writers for children, Terry Deary has once again delivered an excellent short read – just 64 pages – for children aged 8-12 but whose reading age is a little less. This fun football story is sure to get even the most reluctant or struggling reader reading.
