Guardian Angel by Robert Muchamore

The Lovereading4Kids comment

Book two of the second CHERUB series, featuring a new cast of characters - just as compelling as the first, which has sold millions of copies worldwide.

Guardian Angel by Robert Muchamore

Guardian Angel is the second book in a brand-new CHERUB series from Robert Muchamore. Ryan has saved Ethan's life more than once. Ethan thinks he must be a guardian angel. But Ryan works for CHERUB, a secret organisation with one key advantage: even experienced criminals never suspect that children are spying on them. Ethan's family runs a billion-dollar criminal empire and Ryan's job is to destroy it. Can Ryan complete his mission without destroying Ethan as well? For official purposes, these children do not exist.

ROBERT MUCHAMORE was born in Islington in 1972. As a teenager he dreamt of either becoming an architect, a photographer or a writer. On discovering that architects have to train for seven years and after quitting his Saturday job in a camera shop, he saved up enough money to buy a word processor and set his heart on writing. The only problem was, he didn't know what to write. So, he found a regular job and spent thirteen years as a private investigator.

Robert grew up listening to mix tapes sent to him by his older brother, developing tastes for indie bands like Joy Division, The Pogues and The Smiths. The idea for Rock War came from seeing that many of Robert's fans turned up at book signings wearing the logos of long dead rock bands, and a realisation that his online fan forum had more kids talking about the X-Factor than about his books.

Questions & Answers

Who is your favourite author/illustrator?
For kids books I would have to say Rene Goscinny. I loved the Asterix books and
the Little Nicholas series when I was a kid and read each one over and over.

Do you like healthy or fast food? Do you like to cook?
I quite enjoy cooking a special meal or something like that, but everyday cooking is a chore. My taste in food is quite low brow. If I go to a swanky restaurant I often find myself looking at all the fancy stuff on the menu and wishing I could just get steak and chips or a baked potato.

Are you good at sport? Do you enjoy watching, playing, supporting?
I started regularly going to Highbury when I was a teenager and I’m still a big Arsenal fan, but when it comes to playing sport I’m completely useless. I was always the kid who got picked last.

What do you like to do on the weekend?
My ideal weekend is just pottering around the house, looking at the newspapers, reading books, watching movies and listening to music.

If you had one magical power, what would it be?
I’m not really into magic, but I’d quite like a big laser. I could carry it around bookshops and threaten to melt the heads of anyone who leaves the shop without buying a CHERUB book. It would also be handy for parking attendants.

CHERUB is a branch of British Intelligence. Cherubs are trained professionals, aged between ten and seventeen. They live on CHERUB campus, a secret facility hidden in the English countryside. For official purposes, these children do not exist.

Only CHERUB agents can unearth the truth. They’re trained professionals with one essential advantage: adults never suspect that children are spying on them.

There are about 300 children, mostly orphans on the CHERUB campus all training to become CHERUB agents. They are ranked according to the colour of T shirts they wear on campus. Lauren and James are brother and sister and are two of the leading CHERUB agents and have recently been awarded the Black T shirt in recognition of outstanding achievement over a number of missions.
