The Lovereading4Kids comment

Wilbur’s first words help him – and the young readers who follow him – to name all the things around him in his life with Winnie! Wilbur’s house, his bowl, the biscuits he loves and Winnie, who he loves best of all, are all recorded in this sturdy board book.

Wilbur's Book of First Words is an irresistible new board book, perfect for the smallest paws. It's full of bright, bold, and playful images, making first concepts fizz with fun. With a friendly smile and a mischievous twinkle in his eye, the lovable, huggable Wilbur is ready to lead children on an entertaining journey of early-learning discovery. And to make the book extra-special, it ends with a heart-warming picture and message affirming the fondness that Wilbur's owner - none other than Winnie the Witch - has for her big black cat!

Bright and bold, with fabulously detailed illustrations from Korky Paul, this new series of board books brings Winnie the Witch and her pet cat, Wilbur to younger readers. A great way to introduce a range of early-learning concepts to your toddler.

Other titles include: Numbers, Colours, and Opposites.

About the Author

Valerie Thomas

Valerie Thomas was born in Melbourne, Australia, and has lived there for most of her life, apart from six years spent in Europe, where she worked in England, France and Norway. She is a teacher, and has taught in primary, secondary, and special schools in Australia and England as well as lecturing in English Teaching Method in a Teachers’ College in Melbourne.

For many years she worked as an educational researcher and curriculum consultant in the area of spelling, and has written extensively on the subject. Her other main interest is travel. She has travelled to most corners of the world, and has written about her travels: the first piece of writing she had published was an account of her experience picking grapes for the champagne harvest in France.

In 1987 her phenomenally successful children’s book Winnie the Witch, illustrated by Korky Paul, was published by Oxford University Press and won the Children’s Book of the Year Award. It has since been translated into many languages around the world, and also been adapted for CD-ROM. Since then Valerie has written another eleven fabulous Winnie adventures.
