The Lovereading4Kids comment

One of our Books of the Year 2013 A dog barking, a cat meowing, a baby screaming – all of these are set off in a chain reaction when the little old lady who lives at the bottom of the house goes clump, clump, clump across the floor. Young readers will love to join in this exuberant celebration of the noises of everyday life as they run up ands down a tall terraced house.

Synopsis

The Very Noisy House by Julie Rhodes

This rickety old house can be very noisy. Clomp! Clomp! Clomp! Goes the old lady's walking stick. In the room above, the dog wonders if that noise is a knock at the door - woof! Woof! Woof! And that wakes up the ginger cat in the room above who thinks the dog is chasing her - meow! Meow! Meow! Then the frightened cat wakes up the baby in the room above - waaah! Waah! Waah! Follow the riotous noises on each floor of the creaky old house as each resident makes their own crazy din.

A great book to read aloud with plenty of noises to make together, written in rhyming text, and brought wonderfully to life by Korky Paul's distinctive illustrations.

Reviews

* The Very Noisy House by Julie Rhodes and Korky Paul is a riotous and energizing picture book. Armadillo Magazine This is a delightful book that noisy children will love to jabber their way through, but it's also fun for quieter ones to giggle away to as they snuggle up beside you. The Bookbag 'Crazily illustrated by the great Korky Paul, but with attractive front and back endpapers provided by primary school pupils, this book crackles with riot and energy all the way through. Not to enjoy it must be a near impossibility.

'An ideal book for readers unafraid to bark, bellow and bang.'

'A book which attracts the attention ... Perfect to share with young children who will relish the opportunity to join in with all the noises.'

'Young readers will love to join in this exuberant celebration of the noises of everyday life.'

An amusing story and perfect for children
