The Lovereading4Kids comment

November 2013 Book of the Month Based on the lyrics of the world famous Beatles song, this glorious picture book follows five children on a magical journey through the Octopus's garden. The playful Octopus takes them on a wondrous underwater adventure - riding on the backs of turtles, playing pirates in a sunken city and sheltering from a storm in the octopus's cave.

There should be more books like this: in bright, appealing illustrations it tells children how people of different faiths cover their heads to show their love for God. This beautifully illustrated, board book aims to teach children, parents and educators about the shared custom of head covering across the Jewish, Sikh, Christian, Rastafarian, and Islamic faiths. Hats of Faith helps prepare young children for our culturally diverse, modern world and encourages tolerance and understanding.

Synopsis

Octopus's Garden by Ringo Starr

The picture book of 2013 - an autumn must-have! Pop royalty meets picture book A-lister!

The book comes with an accompanying CD which includes an exclusive reading by Ringo Starr and a never-before-heard version of the song.

Ringo Starr first composed Octopus’s Garden 45 years ago in 1968, when holidaying in Sardinia on Peter Sellers’ yacht. The boat’s captain, having offered Ringo an octopus lunch (which he turned down), explained how octopuses trawl the sea bed for shiny stones and objects to put in front of their caves, like something of a garden, and so inspired the lyrics for the song which first appeared on the Abbey Road album in 1969.

Ringo Starr gave the following message for fans:
“It’s great that Octopus’s Garden is being brought to life for a whole new generation. Ben Cort’s colourful illustrations really capture the feel of the song. I love it! Peace and Love, Ringo.”
