The Lovereading4Kids comment

“I want a friend, but who will I choose?’ One boy travels the world to nine different countries and finds friends in them all. In all the countries he visits he learns that there are things that many children do in different places and things that are specific to individual countries. After his trip around the world the boy knows that friendship crosses all boundaries.

Synopsis

One World Together by Catherine Anholt, Laurence Anholt

I want a friend but who will I choose? Take a trip around the world, meet children from lots of different places and peep into their lives.

A super colourful introduction to children from nine different countries, showing how they live and what they enjoy, including interesting cultural aspects of their lives as well as universal themes such as play, friendship and family. The book ends with a big fold-out globe showing all the children in their different countries across the world.
Artwork and text are perfectly pitched for a very young audience, with charming, friendly illustrations and the humorous, gentle text from this internationally acclaimed author and illustrator team, who specialise in pre-school picture books and who have won the Smarties Gold Award twice.

The countries featured are USA, Brazil, China, Russia, Kenya, the Netherlands, Sweden, Japan and Morocco.

Reviews

'Beautiful artwork...and perfectly pitched narrative... A good introduction to cultural diversity and equality for young children.'

'Beautifully illustrated, this book does try to show how different life is for children in different parts of the globe but also how there life can be fun despite those differences.'
