The Lovereading4Kids comment

One of our Books of the Year 2013 A debut picture book from an exciting new picture book talent all about an adorable little puppy, one stick, and his quest for a friend! A riot of colour frames this hilarious story, without saying very much at all - in fact there are only six words in the whole book - in order for this little puppy to find someone who understands you. Stick! is the perfect book for children who are just beginning to read words and pictures together. It wonderfully captures that feeling of inordinate excitement and Look! Play! Play With Me! when children have a new toy.

Win a copy of HATS OF FAITH

There should be more books like this: in bright, appealing illustrations it tells children how people of different faiths cover their heads to show their love for God. This beautifully illustrated, board book aims to teach children, parents and educators about the shared custom of head covering across the Jewish, Sikh, Christian, Rastafarian, and Islamic faiths. Hats of Faith helps prepare young children for our culturally diverse, modern world and encourages tolerance and understanding.

Little Puppy has discovered a STICK and sticks are a LOT of fun. With abounding enthusiasm, he goes in search of a playmate. He sees Bird - aha! - someone to play with! But Bird would much rather eat juicy worms. Hmmm...what about Cow? Or Pig? Who will be Puppy's friend? A riot of colour frames this hilarious story all about making a friend and, without saying very much at all, finding someone who understands you. Stick! is the perfect book for children who are just beginning to read words and pictures together. It wonderfully captures that feeling of inordinate excitement and LOOK! PLAY! PLAY WITH ME! when children have a new toy.

Reviews

A delight. Irish Times Great for sharing with very young children Recommended Reads 2013 Like many of the best children's stories, Stick! is structured around repetition, and even the page layouts follow a clever pattern as the various farm animals peep in from the edges. Inis This is an almost wordless picture book, leaving plenty of scope for the imagination. The illustrations are stylised... the imaginative older reader will help the younger child fill the visual gaps by talking about the context and motives surrounding each stage, as the story develops, and encouraging the child to construct different mental images at each reading Carousel
