The Picnic is part of the Little Peter's Railway series, a delightful, fun and informative collection of stories set on a minaiture railway. The series is a real find for both young and old railway enthusiasts with each book telling the story of a young boy, Peter who lives with his family at the edge of his Grandpa’s farm. To get around Grandpa and his grandson build a railway. Whether it's cooking their picnic in the firebox or tinkering with the engine young and old will delight in the story which brings a flavour of the railways of yesterdyear into a contemporary setting.

Little Peter's Railway The Picnic is perfect to share with young children from 3 and above and is just one of a range of paperback stories from the Peter's Railway series. The beautifully produced hardback books that make up the rest of the series are perfect for kids to move on to particularly if the stories of Thomas are firm favourites in your household as not only do the books in the series provide great stories as the author takes the reader on wonderful adventures, they also deliver lots of engineering facts, simply told for parents and grandparents to share with their youngsters. The passion for the railway shines through in every one of the stories.

A note from the author Chris Vine : “Peter’s Railway Hits the Jackpot is one of my favourite stories yet. Children and parents alike can really see how Peter’s character has developed through the four previous books as he embarks on a huge task and completes it to everyone’s satisfaction. The Peter’s Railway books are my way of passing on my passion to a younger generation and if they help ignite an engineering spark in any of my readers then I will have done what I set out to do.”

Little Peter's Railway the Picnic by Christopher G.C. Vine

Peter and his Grandpa have another adventure, this time it's a hilarious story involving steam trains, food and fun!! Grandpa is left in charge of the children, but can he be trusted to feed them? Of course, but not in quite the way Mum intended!! A picnic dinner aboard the little train leads to sausages being cooked in the firebox and then a messy disaster...

With 12 watercolours by John Wardle.

Our three year old loves The Picnic and has to have it read to him at least once a day! As parents we also love the books and I am thoroughly enjoying reading the larger books to our five year old - for the second time round... Sue R.

Hats off again to Chris Vine the author of `Peter's Railway' for yet another stunning train book!! R Edgar

It is wonderful to have books that do not patronise children. These are ever popular requests! Becky Jones

About the Author

Christopher G.C. Vine

Chris Vine has loved anything mechanical from a young age turning his childhood bedroom into a mini workshop!! He started making things early on,with his first working go-kart at the age of seven. It had a car battery and starter motor as motive power and a morse key as the switch. The next dangerous device was a motor bike made from a tiny child’s bicycle and a lawn mower engine. The drive involved a large and vital pulley from his mother’s washing machine.

Many years later he fulfilled his dream of building his own locomotive and miniature railway, it was this that inspired him to write the books so he could share his knowledge of railways and engineering with the next generation.

It is THE website to use for narrowing down your search for any book. Definitely knocks the socks off any other book review website.
