The Lovereading4Kids comment

Gripping, scary and unputdownable from the first page of the first book in this brilliantly plotted series right through to the last word in this the sixth and final heart-stopping instalment in the bestselling GONE series that really put dystopia back on the map in the 21st century. It is an exceptional page-turner. Escapism just doesn't get better than this. At the start of the series it was seen as The Lord of the Flies for the Heroes generation and that very much still holds true now we've come to the end of a series that will in time become a classic.

The complete list of books in this epic series is....

1 Gone
2 Hunger
3 Lies
4 Plague
5 Fear
6 Light

reader reviews

A small number of teenagers were lucky enough to be invited to review the first in the series - Gone. Here's a taster....'This underrated, terrifyingly good book is a brilliant what-if book. We have discovered a better series than The Hunger Games. Teen reading simply doesn’t get better than this.'.... Click here to read what they thought.

Light by Michael Grant

It's Lord of the Flies for the Heroes generation.

The final instalment of Michael Grant's epic Gone series. A blood-pumping, white-knuckle sci-fi thriller of epic proportions.

All eyes are on Perdido Beach. The barrier wall is now as clear as glass and life in the FAYZ is visible for the entire outside world to see.

Life inside the dome remains a constant battle and the Darkness, away from watchful eyes, grows and grows...The society that Sam and Astrid has struggled so hard to build is about to be shattered for good. It's the end of the FAYZ. But who will survive to see the light of day?

Q&A with Michael..

Where and when were you born?

Los Angeles California. There was a manger involved.

Where do you live and who with?

I live in Irvine, California, which is in “The OC” as we would say. I live with my wife, K.A. Applegate, and our two kids Jake, 11 (feet tall) and Julia, 9 (inches tall.) We have three pets: Goofy, a very large, very stupid, very sweet, poop-eating yellow Labrador; Pugs a nasty, hostile, ugly, yapping pug who I have not yet managed to kill; and Lightning, my daughter’s cat.

How did you first start writing?

My wife and I started writing together in 1989. At the time we were cleaning homes and offices for a living. Since then we’ve written over 150 books, sometimes together, sometimes separately, often under pseudonyms.

What inspires you?

Fear of having to get a real job. Oh, you mean artistically? I don’t know. I seem to be a compulsive writer. I like the rush of taking on something difficult, having no clear idea what I’m doing, and somehow pulling it off.

Have you won any awards for your work?

Fine, rub my nose in that. Great. Actually, the only award I have is a Pollie Award for political ads I produced for the Democrats a few years back.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Amused. Impatient. Political.

What do you do to relax?

Watch TV. Go to restaurants. I don’t find reading fiction relaxing, exactly, it’s too much like work. I tend to read history for relaxation.
