Synopsis

Bert's Band Band 04/Blue by Martin Waddell

Bert's Band like to play as they march down the street. When they win the cup, they arrive back at their home town at midnight, and very carefully remove their shoes and socks so as not to disturb the townsfolk as they march down the street - playing at full belt! This lively text is ideal to read aloud, with lots of opportunities to join in. * Blue/Band 4 books offer longer, repeated patterns with sequential events and integrated literary and natural language. * Text type - A humorous story. * At the end of the story is a poster by the bandstand in the park, advertising Bert's band, which is an ideal cue for further discussion and supports writing activities outside the reading session. * Curriculum links - Science: sounds and hearing; Citizenship: taking part.

About the Author

Martin Waddell

As a child

I've been blown up, buried alive and had cancer as an adult, and survived all these experiences, so I'm a very lucky man. I live where I lived as a child, and nearly all my stories come from things that have happened to me here, at the foot of the Mountain of Mourne.

As an artist
I work in an old stone barn beside my home, and dream my stories in the garden and on long walks on the beach in front of my house. I never write anywhere else. This is where I belong.

Things you didn't know about Martin Waddell

I can wiggle my ears. I am a very noisy tennis player. I had a cat that could open doors. My dog hears my stories before I write them. I scored a hat trick on my debut in adult football, but wound up as a goalkeeper. I used to run a junk stall. I like bringing up egg-shaped stones from the beach to my garden. I like apple tarts. I hate onions. I’m a happy man

You give me age appropriate ideas of books I can read and buy for the children and find out what other children their age think of them too.

I am so pleased to have signed my kids up as they are reading a much wider range of books and even choosing books out of their comfort zone.

I love finding new books to read. My mummy and me look at the new ones coming out. I have written reviews of some of them!
