Synopsis

Miracles, Whales and Wonderful Tales by Shirley Isherwood

Early, one morning, Joseph came to my stable. 'My donkey,' he said, 'we must go on a journey...' Lovingly retold by acclaimed children's author, Shirley Isherwood, the wonder of ten of the best stories from the Bible are married with striking contemporary illustrations in this sumptuous collection. The immediacy of the text allows the reader an 'I was there' experience as events unfold in a narrative that is variously moving, dramatic and gently humorous. With illustrations from artists such as Reg Cartwright, Allison Reed and Liz Pyle, this is a unique and very beautiful collection for any child. Stories featured are: Adam and Eve and Everything ; Noah and the Flood ; Moses and the Great Escape ; David and the Giant ; Jonah and the Whale ; A Very Special Star ; Fishes, Loaves and Miracles ; The Story of the Good Samaritan ; The Last Supper ; and First Light .

About the Author

Shirley Isherwood was born in Yorkshire but her family moved to London soon after her birth. She returned to the North of England just before the Second World War and began her working life as a dressmaker. Since starting to write, however, she refuses to even sew on a button! Shirley has written about thirty children's books and many series for children's television. Her books have been published in France, Germany, Spain, Sweden and America.
