About the Author

Sarah Kelly studied Illustration at the University of Brighton and has been illustrating since graduating in 1988. She has always been fascinated by the idea of creating something out of something else, and her work at this time was done entirely in mixed media collage, using literally anything that came to hand. She began to adapt this to a cut paper mosaic style following a commission that required this technique and eventually (with much kicking and screaming) a friend persuaded her to try 'the real thing'. She has never looked back since! She has worked on a number of commissions ranging from mirrors and pictorial panels to 3D objects, bathrooms and murals. Between 1997 and she worked with the designer Kaffe Fassett on his mosaic projects, and many of the finished pieces feature in his book 'Mosaics'. This collaboration also included a gold-medal winning mosaic garden for the 1998 Chelsea Flower Show.
