Welcome to the Island of Struay, home of one of the best-loved characters in children's books and as seen on TV - Katie Morag McColl! This lavish book is packed with brand-new stories and poems featuring favourite characters from Katie Morag's island home. Whether she's trying to keep the secret of Baking Day from her little brother Liam, befriending a baby seal with the Holiday Children, or even smoothing out troubles between her two very different grannies, Katie Morag is always at the heart of this island and its special way of life.

About the Author

Mairi Hedderwick
Mairi Hedderwick was born in Gourock, Scotland. At seventeen she took a job as a mother’s help on the Isle of Coll in the Hebrides, beginning a life-long love affair with islands and their small communities. Her children were brought up there and now some of her grandchildren. From being Grannie Island she has now moved on to being Granma Mainland, but her heart is always on the island. Mairi’s island world is delightfully reflected in the imaginary island of Struay where Katie Morag and her family live. As well as creating children’s books Mairi writes and illustrates travel books for adults. She spends a lot of time visiting schools and is always accompanied by Katie Morag’s teddy, which travels with her in a black bag.

I love Lovereading4kids because I get an opportunity to put my opinion forward and to try new books

Elosie Clarkson – age 11

Lovereading is just a convenient way to find new books and hear others opinions on them.

Sarah Murray – age 15

I love Lovereading because I often never know what to read and this helps you find a good book. I have recommended this to many people.

Shannon-Louise Masters – age 15

You give me age appropriate ideas of books I can read and buy for the children and find out what other children their age think of them too.

Katie Lonsdale

I love finding new books to read. My mummy and me look at the new ones coming out. I have written reviews of some of them!

Jessica Cobbin – age 7

I am so pleased to have signed my kids up as they are reading a much wider range of books and even choosing books out of their comfort zone.
