Synopsis

Maths Makes Sense: 15x Pupil Card Sets (sheets of 60) by Richard Dunne, Carrie Dunne

The Maths Makes Sense Pupil Cards are designed to be used alongside the Toolkit, which is essential kit for every Maths Makes Sense classroom. The Pupil Cards generally start to be used from Maths Makes Sense 3 (Y3/P4), as children move from using cups to using cards with printed symbols, while still retaining the support of a physical representation of mathematical concepts. Maths Makes Sense has a unique learning system which makes maths concrete to children by using carefully developed visual, auditory and kinaesthetic techniques supported by physical objects such as cups, sticks and cards in a rigorous and consistent way throughout primary school. Maths Makes Sense is fully supported by an inspiring training programme which enables teachers to learn the system - both taster days and whole-school training are available.

Suddenly, children who had not previously engaged with maths were fully involved. They were laughing and enjoying their learning and could comprehend by 'concretizing

's personal contribution to the training was crucial to engendering staff enthusiasm for an innovative product. Sarah Oliver, Deputy Headteacher, Cuckoo Hall Primary School, Enfield, London Maths Makes Sense is an inspirational way of teaching maths. Inspirational for so many reasons: the strong methodology which ensures every child learns and understands maths; the high level of training and practical support for teachers from the materials; the way even very complex maths is made simple and effortless to children - it has been one of the best decisions I ever made. It's quite literally what the title says. It is a way of making complex maths make sense. It is about high expectations and every child being a successful mathematician. Following the training we now know that 'complex'

It is THE website to use for narrowing down your search for any book. Definitely knocks the socks off any other book review website.
