Read Write Inc. Phonics: Get Writing! Handbook Including Resource CD by Ruth Miskin, Charlotte Raby

Step-by-step guidance on how to teach writing as part of the Read Write Inc. programme. Detailed plans for writing lessons linked to the Storybooks and Non-fiction books are provided. These can be used by teaching assistants, or the activities can also be adapted if teachers want to use them more flexibly or extend them. There are tips for developing talk and extending children's written and spoken vocabulary, as well as advice for handwriting. The CD-ROM (for use on an IWB) provides writing frames and modelling activities, 'banks' of powerful words, and planning sheets for extended writing tasks. Channel 4 featured Ruth Miskin and the Read Write Inc. method being used in schools in a series of programmes broadcast in Autumn 2007 and Summer 2008. Read Write Inc. raised standards and turned struggling and non-readers into more confident and competent readers.

Read Write Inc. actually teaches children to read and write. We love using this programme because children achieve so much so quickly. They want to read and write. It's the best literacy programme we have ever known. Lorna Jackson, Headteacher, Maryland Primary School
