Shortlisted for the Independent Booksellers' Book Prize 2010.
The magic of books and reading is perfectly illustrated in this joyful picture book. Dog loves books and reading so he decides to open a bookshop. Everything about it is perfect – except that no one comes in to buy books! Dog hates being alone but he soon finds that if he is reading he never is alone as all the characters from the stories come and join him.

Dog loves books! Dog loves books about dinosaurs and Dog loves books about aliens: in fact Dog loves all books! Dog has his very own bookshop, although he doesn't have many customers. But that's all right, because when Dog is surrounded by books, he is never short of friends or fun. And when someone does come into the shop, Dog knows just which books to recommend.
Review of ‘Dog Loves Books’ by Books for Keeps [5 stars]
This dog of the title is, like this reviewer, a bibliophile and moreover is opening a bookshop - something I’ve always wanted to do. Unfortunately, Dog’s bookshop has a decided lack of customers: one person visits just wants a cup of tea and another to ask the way. To while away the time Dog takes book after book from the shelves and as he reads he forgets he is alone. Finally, he has a customer and shows boundless enthusiasm for recommending just the right book because, not only does dog love books but, most of all (again, just like this reviewer) he loves sharing them.
The watercolour and pencil illustrations show Dog lost in the aura of his imagination as he is transported through the pages of the books he reads to the worlds within.
