'Living Language and Literature Online': www.alevel-english.co.uk. The 'Living Language and Literature' website delivers the content and skills that students require for the new AS and A level specifications for English Language and English Language & Literature. The on-line materials complement the 'Living Language 3rd edition' and the 'Living Language & Literature 2nd edition' Student's Books by broadening and deepening students' understanding of the key topics interactively and by providing focused exam and coursework preparation. The on-line units for English Language are: Key Concepts for Studying Language; How Language Works within Social Contexts; Investigating Language; Creating Your Own Texts; and How Language Develops. The on-line units for English Language and Literature are: How Genres Work; Exploring and Comparing Texts; Investigating Talk in Life and Literature; Producing Your Own Texts; and Creating New Texts from Old. These on-line units are designed to work either in a whole-class teaching context or for individual study. Students engage with the materials through on-screen activities, printable resources and interactive activities which enable them to analyse, transform and create texts and extracts, so developing their own writing skills. Audio material enriches the study of performance texts, transcripts of spoken language and the varieties of English. The exam and coursework section for each unit features model questions and student exemplars with commentaries by examiners and moderators from the four main exam boards, thus providing dedicated support whatever specification is being followed. Extension material for A* students is available in a further unit offering perspectives on literary and linguistic theory, again supported by interactive activities. References to all key linguistic terms and theories are supported comprehensively by a global Glossary and Bibliography which can be accessed from any unit. Students with both the 'Living' Student's Books and the on-line materials at their disposal will be in the best position to aim high when it comes to final assessment.
