This title is part of Bug Club, the first whole-school reading programme that joins books with an online reading world to teach today's children to read. In this Lime-B level Mae in the Middle book: It's time for school but at Mae's house, no one is going anywhere because the keys have disappeared. Cool-headed Mae asks Roz to remember what she did after she had opened the door the previous day. She points to the drawing Roz has made and realises it was drawn in the attic. They find the keys there in time to get to school.

About the Author

Andrew Fusek Peters is an Anglo Czech poet, author, anthologist, storyteller, didgeridoo player, broadcaster and creative writing tutor. He has written and edited over 30 books for Hodder-Wayland, Harper Collins, Ginn, Narefoot Books, Bloodaxe and Evans. These books include Poems with attitude, Sadderday and Funday and May the Angels Be With Us.

Andrew and his collaborator Polly Peters, an English and Drama teacher, are no strangers to poetry and novels but this appears to be their first venture into the "poetry novel".

Crash was published in 2004. Andrew and Polly both live in Shropshire. The rural area influenced the novel. The story is set in the countryside, and speeding is the main theme - trying to make young people aware of the dangers of speed, and importance of road safety.

It's a long way from Enid Blyton.
