Synopsis

Primary Playground Games by Cat Weatherill

Scholastic Teacher Bookshop provides a wonderful range of titles reflecting current issues in education as well as the most popular primary curriculum areas. Teachers can browse through 'The Bookshop' and choose those titles that meet their particular needs and/or take their fancy! The varied format of titles in this series enables subjects to be covered in a way that is most appropriate to the content. Primary Playground Games provides a wealth of ideas for promoting positive play at playtime. The selection of games included, can all be taught easily and quickly by teachers or playtime supervisors. There are games for every age group across the primary age range and suitable for every type of playground as well as indoor games for wet playtimes. The games themselves require little or no special equipment - just the occasional piece of chalk or an old blanket. All they require is imagination and a few friends. All the games in this book have been vigorously tested by the author in schools and over the years she has played hundreds of games with thousands of children. She has worked with teachers and lunchtime supervisors, listening to their ideas as well as hearing their frustrations. She has researched into old games and fashioned new ones to suit today's children. As well as ideas for games the book also includes sections on working with special needs, ideas for transforming your playground and practical solutions to common playground problems.

About the Author

Cat Weatherill

Cat is a storyteller and writer. She is as old as her tongue and a little older than her teeth.

She was born and raised in Liverpool, where her grandmother saw an angel, her uncle fell off the Liver Building and her grandfather donated his shirt buttons to Beatles’ fans. Now she lives in Wales, a land of mist and magic.

After school, Cat studied Drama at Hull University, and she has been a professional performer ever since. She has worked as an actor and a singer, but she likes storytelling best. She became a professional storyteller in 1998.
