Synopsis

Castaway by Caroline Pitcher

What started off as a dare becomes something far more dangerous, when six children on a geography trip find themselves cut off by the sea. Not only that, but it's the dead of night and Skull Island is rumoured to be haunted. One of the boys is injured and it transpires that another can't swim. Soon, getting back before the teachers find out they're gone is the least of their worries.

About the Author

Caroline Pitcher

Caroline Pitcher was born and brought up in East Yorkshire. She spent much of her time as a child out in the countryside, and playing by the river. As a child her interest in reading was encouraged by her mother, and by some excellent teachers, and she loved reading books about ‘nature’. As well as reading she enjoyed writing, and writing has always been an essential part of her life. She wrote her first novel just before becoming a mother, and now enjoys writing for all age groups. Her ideas for stories often come from places she has visited.

Caroline Pitcher studied English and European Literature at university, then worked in a number of places including a fish factory and an art gallery before becoming a primary school teacher in East London. She now lives in Derbyshire.
In 1987 Caroline won the Kathleen Fidler Award for Diamond. The Snow Whale was shortlisted for the Children’s Book Award in 1997. Caroline was also awarded the Arts Council of England Writer’s Award for work in progress for Silkscreen which was first published in July 2000. 11 O’Clock Chocolate Cake was published in 2002 and met with great acclaim.

Caroline is now writing a brand new quartet for Egmont, which opens with the first novel, Cloud Cat. The quartet is eagerly anticipated by booksellers, children and parents alike and promises, once again, to combine Caroline’s atmospheric writing with a great story! Sky Shifter is the second installment and publishes in July 2005.
