Synopsis

I Know Why I Brush My Teeth by Kate Rowan

Each Sam's Science book explores an aspect of science through a conversation between young Sam and his mum. In this book Sam learns about molars, canines and incisors, baby teeth and big ones, and how to look after them all.

Reviews

An introductory science book which joins the other books in the Sam's Science series, I know how we fight germs and I know where my food goes. Children are fascinated by whys and wherefores, especially of their own bodies, and the Sam's Science books intelligently informs them of the reasons for good hygiene, in a fun way. Sam has his first wobbly tooth and, with his mother's help, he remembers all his dentist told him on how to look after his teeth which, as his Mum says, will have to last him the rest of his life. The book goes beyond the immediate message of cleaning your teeth well, to investigating teeth themselves, naming and labelling parts and discussing dangers such as plaque and bacteria, in a style that is a good introduction to basic scientific research using information books. The book is complete with an index. The pictures are bright and cheerful and are an attractive aid to a clear text. This is an essential read for any child who is just beginning to lose their baby teeth, and a help to all parents trying to encourage good dental hygiene. (Kirkus UK)
