Synopsis

Journey into the Bible A Time Traveller's Guidebook by Lois Rock

'The Bible is one of the most important books in the history of the world. This book will take you on a journey through time. It is your chance to visit some of the most important scenes from Bible times.' This exciting time-travelling book combines fascinating facts and 'travel tips' with intriguing pictures and maps to take all young explorers on a guided tour of the ancient world of the Bible and its people. Drawing readers into foreign lands and epic journeys, from the beginning of time itself, they will be given a tourist's-eye view of the people and empires that provided the setting for the Bible's great stories. Each stop on the journey allows the reader to learn about the people and events associated with that place as well as offering astonishing glimpses of what archaeologists have uncovered. 'Travel tips' give useful information for the journey - what food and weather to expect, where to stay, what sort of festivals you might experience, and what souvenirs are worth looking out for!

Reviews

The front of the book tells us that it is '20 great adventures in Bible times' - but in fact it is so much more than that. I opened the book to find a content page facing a route plan, telling me some basic facts about the Bible - thus a setting has been prepared. Each of the following spreads is a fusion of information, story and fact. The pictures are detailed, interspersed with mini labels and facts so that information is simply and clearly shown to the reader. Travel tips on each double spread give additional information to the reader, resulting in much to pore over and discuss. How one chooses which parts of the Bible story to include or omit is a hard task but Rock has achieve this task well - Schools, churches, libraries and individuals would find this a very welcome volume indeed.A The School Librarian
